So, I recently found a Minicraft PanAm B-314 Clipper at the local model store.  I love flying boats, so when I saw it half off on the shelf, I grabbed it.  I do have to say that I'm not terribly impressed with it.  The main problems I ran into were that there was a ton of flash on the mold, the sprues were big honkin' things that didn't want to give up their parts, and not everything wants to fit together.  Looking at the inside of the parts it appears that the mold was made in 1962.  40+ years is a long time for a mold.  In the sections of the pieces where the plastic is thicker, it looks like the material sunk in as it cooled.  I'm not a big fan of filling in sinkholes in what should be a continuous piece of paneling.  And the transparent pieces fog up nicely when coatedin future floor polish.  I'll make the best of it, but I hope they rebuild this mold for future runs.
