Welcome to the 3v1L b33r brewery (aka my kitchen)

b33r 15 g00d! Well, I like beer. I also like making beer. I don't have a lot of space, so I mostly use the prefab canned stuff. But I do add little bits of this and that in as needed. I'll try to describe how well or poorly some of these things work. If you have questions, feel free to email me at The descriptions here are organized by start date.

AND EXCEPT DURING VERY SPECIFIC AND UNUSUAL CONDITIONS, BEER SHOULD NOT TASTE LIKE FRUIT!!!! (The only valid one I can think of right now is getting the chicks to enjoy it.)

Nov. 7, 2002 - Suped up Extra stout
Well, I started with the Edme extra stout can of goo. I steeped a cup of black patent malt in a gallon of water. Mixed everything together up to 6gal. added 1.3lbs of hopped dark spraymalt and half a cup of crushed oats. My guess is that this will be around 5% alcohol. It already smells wonderful.
June 10, 2001 - Nut-Brown Ale with lots of goofing off
  • Description: This is a nut-brown that I just goofed around with. But it does smell damn good. I'm hoping it will be ready for a tasting at the boss's party as well. Mmmmmm, I like beer.
  • Primary Fermenter (closed and topped off to 6gal. with water):
    • One large can of Cooper's nut-brown beer stuff
    • One small can of Morton's carmalt
    • 1c corn sugar disolved into a gallon of boiling water
    • 1/4c maple syrup disolved into the water above
    • 1c of black patent malt boiled for 10min in the water above and then strained out.
    • One packet Cooper's dry yeast. This didn't rehydrate well. All it wanted to do was ball up together. Yech! That's why the next item was added.
    • One packet Liberty dry beer yeast.
  • Specific Gravity: 1.046
  • Temperature: It's a bit warm out now, like around 78, hopefully it will go down.
  • Bottling: 16 bottles were done from the primary to the bottling bucket on 6-10-01, and put on the shelf. The rest was put into a secondary (carboy) and then later bottled (31 bottles) on 6-16-01. It should be ready to drink at the end of the month.
  • ABV: ~5%
  • Taste: It tastes like a nutbrown on the tip of the mouth, and like a stout going down the throat. This too has a lower level of carbonation but it is definitely a keeper.

June 2, 2001 - Wheat Beer
  • Description: This one is a basic wheat beer. Nothing too strange was done with it. It's going to be taken to my boss's big "party for the dept." party around the bigging of July.
  • Primary Fermenter (closed and topped off to 5.5gal with water):
    • One large can of Morton's Wheat beer stuff
    • One small can of Morton's carmalt
    • One packet of Morton's dry yeast that has been rehydrated.
  • Specific Gravity: 1.038
  • Temperature: Hovered right around 73-76F
  • Bottling:
    • 1/3c corn sugar added when racked into bottling bucket
    • Generated 52 12oz. bottles. -June 7, 2001
    • It should be ready to drink June 23, 2001
  • ABV: ~3.9-4.0%
  • Taste: It's a hair acidic, low carbonation, but still fairly tasty.

Pre- June 2001
  • All my records have disappeared somewhere when I moved in May. No idea where they are or if they even exist still. I don't hold out much hope for the papers showing up. There was some blue mountain laggers, some dry stouts, and a bunch of other random stuff.
